Maintenance of the Undercarriage Parts for Excavator

Maintenance of the Undercarriage Parts for Excavator

You may often heard operators of excavator saying rollers leak oil, the sprocket is broken, the running of the undercarriage is weak, the undercarriage is stuck when working, and the crawler track group tightness is inconsistent, and these are all related to the maintenance of the four wheels of the excavator! In order for the excavator to walk smoothly and fast, the maintenance of the undercarriage parts is the key!
01 Track Roller
Avoid Soaking
During the work, try to avoid the rollers being immersed in muddy water for a long time. After the work is completed every day, the unilateral crawler should be supported, and the walking motor should be driven to shake off the dirt, gravel and other debris on the crawler;
Keep Dry

In winter construction, the track roller must be kept dry, because there is a floating seal between the outer shell of the track roller and the shaft. If there is water, it will form ice at night. When the excavator is moved the next day, the contact between the seal and the ice will be blocked. Scratches cause oil leakage;
Avoid Damage

The damage of the bottom rollers will cause many failures, such as walking deviation, walking weakness and so on.

Avoid bottom roller damage

02 Carrier Roller

Avoid Damage
The carrier roller is located above the X frame, and its function is to maintain the linear motion of the track chain rail. If the carrier roller is damaged, the track chain rail will not be able to maintain a straight line.

Keep it clean; do not soak in muddy water

The carrier roller is a one-time injection of lubricating oil. If there is oil leakage, it can only be replaced with a new one. During the work, try to avoid the roller being immersed in muddy water for a long time. Too much dirt and gravel build up hindering the rotation of the carrier roller.

03 Idler Group

The Idler Group is located in the front of the X frame, which consists of the idler and the tension spring installed inside the X frame.
Keep the Direction Ahead

In the process of operation and walking, keep the idler in front, which can avoid abnormal wear of the track chain rail, and the tension spring can also absorb the impact brought by the road surface during work and reduce wear and tear.

Keep idler direction forward

04 Drive Sprocket

Keep the Drive Sprocket behind the X-frame

The driving sprocket is located at the rear of the X frame, because it is directly fixed on the X frame and has no shock absorption function. If the driving sprocket travels in the front, it will not only cause abnormal wear on the driving sprocket and track chain rail, but also adversely affect the X frame. The X frame may have problems such as early cracking.

Clean the Track Pads regularly

The protective plate of the walking motor can protect the motor. At the same time, some soil and gravel will be introduced into the internal space, which will wear the oil pipe of the walking motor. The water in the soil will corrode the joints of the oil pipe, so the protective plate should be opened regularly. Clean up the dirt inside.

Clean the Track Pads regularly

05 TRACK GROUP

The crawler track group is mainly composed of track shoes and track chains, and the track shoes is divided into standard track pad and extension track pad. Standard track pads are used for earthwork conditions, and extension track pads are used for wet conditions.

Clear Gravel
The wear on the track shoes is the most serious in the mine. When walking, the gravel will sometimes get stuck in the gap between the two shoes. When it comes into contact with the ground, the two shoes will be squeezed, and the track shoes will easily bend. Deformation and long-term walking will also cause cracking problems at the bolts of the track shoes.

Avoid Over-Tightening the Track

The track chain is in contact with the driving sprocket and is driven by the sprocket to rotate. Excessive tension of the track will cause early wear of the track chain, driving sprocket and idler pulley.

Avoid Over-Tightening the Track

06 Bolts

Keep the Bolts

Check whether the bolts of the running parts of the crawler are loose (the track pin/bushing, the track shoe, the track roller, the idler). If it is loose, pls kindly refer the instruction manual to tighten the torque.

Keep the Bolts

07 the Method of Sediment Cleaning

Daily inspection before work: confirm the rotation of the carrier wheel and the roller;

Cleaning after daily work, clean up the dirt, sediment, mineral powder and other attachments that stick to the lower walking body.

Sediment cleaning method

(1) Lift the unilateral crawler, suspend it in mid-air and make it idling to shake off the attachments;

(2) Directly clean the sediment, gravel, mineral powder and other attachments accumulated at the drag sprocket, roller, and final drive;

(3) Directly flush sediment, gravel, mineral powder and other attachments with water.
