The structure and use of track shoes

The track shoe is one of the undercarriage parts of construction machinery and a vulnerable part of the construction machinery used. It is commonly used in construction machinery such as excavators, bulldozers, crawler cranes, and pavers。

The structure of track shoes

Commonly  track shoes are divided into three types according to the grounding shape, single-rib, three-rib and flat-bottomed, and some of them use triangular track shoes. Single-reinforced track shoes are mainly used for bulldozers and tractors, because such machines require track shoes to have high traction capacity. However, it is rarely used on excavators. This kind of track shoe is only used when the excavator is equipped with a drill frame or requires a large horizontal thrust. Higher traction force is required when turning, so higher tread bars (ie, spurs) will squeeze away the soil (or ground) between the tread bars, thus affecting the maneuverability of the excavator.

Steel track shoes can be divided into: excavator plates and bulldozer plates, these two are the most commonly used, with section steel as raw material. Then there is the wet floor used by bulldozers, commonly known as “triangular plate”, which is a cast plate. Another kind of cast plate is used on crawler cranes. The weight of this plate ranges from tens of kilograms to hundreds of kilograms。

Substitute steel for track shoes

The track shoes of tracked vehicles are generally made of high manganese steel with a history of nearly 100 years. This is because high manganese steel has a prominent feature, that is, it undergoes impact hardening under the action of impact load, so that it forms a hard and wear-resistant surface layer, while still maintaining the toughness and plasticity of its inner structure. However, high manganese steel is used as a track shoe, and it is often damaged early due to cracks, inverted teeth and deflection during use, and its service life is low. In order to overcome this shortcoming, a low-alloy high-strength steel 30SiMnMoV(Ti) steel based on domestic resources and easy to produce has been developed. It has been successfully used to replace high-manganese steel to manufacture track shoes.

Processing method

The processing technology of profile track shoes is generally: using profile blanking, drilling (punching), heat treatment, straightening, painting and other processes; the track of the bulldozer is single-reinforced, and the general paint color is yellow; the excavator plate is generally It is three ribs, and the paint color is black. The profile material purchased is generally 25MnB, and the final heat treatment hardness of the material is HB364~444.
